One of the most influential wineries on the world’s stage, Chateau Ste. Michelle has not only helped establish the Washington wine region, but also formed important winemaking partnerships globally. Come join us at this very special seminar as we talk with the luminaries themselves about the winery’s beginnings and how it has evolved over the decades, as well as what the future holds for Washington wine. Hell and High Water: How Geologic Forces and Catastrophes Shaped Washington Wine

At the end of the last ice age, the Great Missoula Floods sent walls of water and huge chunks of ice roaring through present day Washington wine country, leaving behind unique and distinctive soil types. Today, our wines are influenced by these soils, along with geography and climate. In this seminar, hear these stories brought to life and taste wines that showcase one of the world’s most unique terroirs. Want to learn how Washington’s soils and geography make it such a special place to grow wine grapes? This is the place to do it.

Moderator: Kevin Pogue, Ph.D., Whitman College
